Abstract
There are two essential subjects in the relationship between peacekeeping forces and humanitarian law: the first one is the necessity of complying with humanitarian law by peacekeepers. As the peacekeeping operations done by the permission and under the control of the United Nations, it is important to deal with the necessity of respecting to humanitarian law by the UN and subsequently by the peacekeepers. The Second one is the necessity of the intervention of peacekeepers in order to prevent or stop violation of the rules of humanitarian law. This article, invoking customary and conventional sources of international law, seeks to clarify the above mentioned subjects.
